I was recently checking my mail in gmail and check out the sponsored link at the top of the page.
Isn’t GMail supposed to have smart adwords? Where it would decide based upon context etc. what ads should be shown?
Can’t they just see my user-agent and know that I am using firefox! Looks to me that mozilla isn’t getting all of what they paid for.
Ok, I know this would be too painful to implement and all. But still! Then it got me thinking. Thing is, they are showing these ads based on context to someone like me , who was checking out the whatwg mailing list on HTML5 and browser support . I don’t need to know about firefox. The old mom and pop who are checking out their son’s images sent from U.S via an email need to know about firefox!
Is it just me or is in this case the Google AdWords model broken and Mozilla foundation just wasting their money?
